Exploring the parliamentary inquiry into educational attainment

A new federal parliamentary inquiry into educational attainment is seeking to further understand and shed light on why some students achieve stronger educational outcomes than others. 

This inquiry aims to investigate how factors such as gender, cultural and linguistic diversity, and socioeconomic background impact academic performance as well as patterns in attendance and engagement.

While this is not a new question, nor a topic that has not been thoroughly researched before, the government inquiry reflects a revived focus on understanding how these particular factors influence experiences at Australian schools today, and where persistent gaps in attainment remain despite decades of policy attention.
