What is Radio National's Top 100 Books Countdown?
Top 100 Books is Radio National's annual countdown where we hand over the reins to you. You vote for your favourite books, then we take over Radio National for a weekend to count them down.
Each year we focus on a different theme. In 2026, we're celebrating Australian writing in all its many forms — and we're asking you to nominate your Top 100 Australian Books (of all time!)
When does the Top 100 Australian Books campaign run?
- 31 August — voting opens at 8am (so be prepared!)
- 1 October — voting closes at 11.59pm
- 17 and Sunday, 18 October — tune in to ABC Radio National for countdown weekend!
How does voting work?
When voting opens, head to the Top 100 Books website and follow the link to the voting page. You'll find our inspiration list featuring hundreds of brilliant books to jog your memory — but it's not exhaustive. If your favourite book isn't there, you can add it manually.
