About the Foundation for Learning and Literacy
Providing evidence, support and expertise about literacy learning for teachers, parents and policymakers
The Foundation for Learning and Literacy (FFLL) is concerned with the role literacy plays in ensuring our children become compassionate, confident, competent and creative citizens in an increasingly complex world.
The Foundation is led by a group of expert educators with extensive experience in education at preschool, primary, secondary and tertiary levels. All have significant classroom teaching experience and maintain strong and continuing links to schools and classrooms.

What does the Foundation do?
The Foundation provides information about relevant research and classroom practices that establish an evidence base for effective literacy teaching and learning.
Our aim is to support teachers, early childhood educators, parents and caregivers who nurture children to enable them to develop confidence and joy alongside the skills needed to become deeply literate.
The Foundation’s resources will also be of interest to the broader community including educational policy makers, politicians, business leaders and the media.
The Foundation undertakes many activities including:
- Advocacy for teachers and schools
- Collaboration with partners to amplify voices
- Research and Practice articles and resources that form a contemporary
evidence base for literacy teaching - News and up to date information curated from a range of quality assured sources
- Monthly newsletters with links to resources for Friends
- Fact Checks to support educators with some claims and misinformation in the media
- Information for Parents including articles, booklists and videos
- Videos and presentations on a range of topics to support teacher and school leader professional learning.
